Dr. J Robert Oppenheimer was an American Physicist who was also known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb” because of his contribution as the scientific leader of the Manhattan Project which developed the Atom bomb. Other than his leadership in the project he was also the person who pivoted the meaning of Quantum mechanics and Quantum field theory in America.
Dr. Oppenheimer was born in new york in a German Jewish family. His being Jewish played a lot of controversy in his life which you will able to see in the movie “Oppenheimer”
After deciding which movie to watch first “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer”, but it was “Cillian Murphy” and for the sake of my love, I went to watch it first. Andddd I am not gonna make it a spoiler blog.
The movie starts with a trial scene going on for Dr.Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy. Lewis Strauss, the senior member of AEC(United state Atomic Energy Commission) played by our very own Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr, honestly it took me a minute or 2 to recognize him. He has played a very key role in Dr. Oppenheimer’s life and you can see that in the movie with lots of twist and turn. The movie is followed up by flashback scenes from a different era of Dr.Oppenheimer. Scenes are beautifully presented and I think this time you might not have to ask what is actually happening to someone sitting beside you, which was a little bit shocking for me. I mean, tbh I watched Interstellar twice to fully understand the “relativity of time”.
I don’t exactly know how much inspiration Jean Tatlock, played by Florence Pugh, had in his real life but here in the movie, you would see very limited screen time of hers. Florence is an undeniably outstanding actress and she has justified her role with her intense acting as usual. The intimate scene between the 2 actors with the Bhagavad Gita quote which has raised many religious questions too is there and I think Christopher Nolan could have looked into this scene without hurting sentiments, but again I am not sure if it actually happened in real life in the same way as it has shown in the movie. So go and watch it with an open heart.
Emily Blunt has played the role of Katherine Oppenheimer, wife of Dr. Oppenheimer. Acting-wise we can’t doubt her acting skill. Of all scenes, the scene I loved the most was when she appeared as a badass wife to save her husband. Loveddd it….!
Oppenheimer movie comes with a long list of casts from Hollywood and I don’t think any of them have overacted or anything. So full star to them.
Story-wise Nolan was trying to show how Oppenheimer was distressed by creating something which can harm humanity in so many ways. His dilemma is to be happy for the success of his country in which he too has played a major role or to be sad of what he has created is not just a bomb to inbuild fear but can destroy the whole human race. His choices and his voice had brought so many controversies in his life, which Nolan has beautifully portrayed. I could feel the helplessness that Cillian Murphy was feeling.
My honest review would be, even though the movie was 3 hours you will not feel bored if and only if you are into these kinds of movies. Some of the pun lines between Cillian and Matt Damon are to the point and funny and I think it did help in bringing the comic charm to this serious movie. It’s definitely one time to watch the movie and for the second time watch you can wait till any streaming service will drop this movie. 😋
